error correction code(ECC)
A code that provides an inherent method of correcting errors detected in received data. The process is termed forward error correction. Such a code provides for the introduction of redundant bits as necessary to make all correct bit patterns conform to a particular rule according to some algorithm. The hardware with which the code is used provides for the analysis of bit patterns that deviate from the rule in order to determine which bits are in error and to change them.;
